 Your hard drive is getting full, and you need to free up some space. But where do you start? Follow these four easy ways to free up space on your hard drive in Windows.


1. Delete temporary files


Windows and your applications create temporary files for a variety of reasons. These temporary files can stack up over time, taking up valuable space on your hard drive. To clean up these files:


Open the Start menu and type %temp% in the search bar. This will open your Temp folder.


Press Ctrl+A to select all of the files in the Temp folder, then press Delete on your keyboard.


Click Yes when prompted to confirm the deletion.


2. Uninstall programs you don’t use


If you’re like most people, you probably have a few programs on your computer that you never use. These programs take up valuable space on your hard drive, and they can be uninstalled to free up that space.


To uninstall a program in Windows:


Open the Start menu and click Control Panel.


Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.


Select the program you want to uninstall and remove it.

3. Move files to an external hard drive


If you have files that you don’t use very often, but don’t want to delete, you can move them to an external hard drive. This will free up space on your primary hard drive, while still allowing you to access the files if you need them.


To move files to an external hard drive:


Connect the external hard drive to your computer.


Open File Explorer and locate the files you want to move.


Drag and drop the files into the external hard drive.


4. Use disk cleanup


Windows includes a built-in tool that can help you free up space on your hard drive. This tool, called disk cleanup, can delete temporary files, uninstall programs, and more.


To use disk cleanup:


Open the Start menu and type disk cleanup in the search bar.


Click Disk Cleanup from the results.


Click the drive you want to clean up and click OK.


Check the boxes next to the types of files you want to delete and click OK.


These are just a few of the ways you can free up space on your hard drive in Windows.
